About GTG Knives
GTG Knives, LLC. was started by Robert Wright in 2015. GTG stands for GLORY TO GOD! The Cross, that is central to the GTG Knives logo, is there because we believe that giving Glory to God happens through faith in Jesus Christ.
There are multiple reasons why Robert chose to name a knife company Glory to God Knives. From the start he knew that he wanted to have a cross on his knives. He thought by doing so, it would identify his company as being one that seeks to honor God through Jesus Christ. However, there was also the thought that by having a cross on the knives, it would hopefully prevent any jihadist or other evil persons from wanting to purchase or use any of his knives in any unrighteous way. However, the name was ultimately decided on after reading a quote by A.W. Tozer in the Pursuit of God, which he had been reading during the time he was preparing to form the company. It says: “Let the seeking man reach a place where life and lips join to say continually, ‘Be thou exalted,’ and a thousand minor problems will be solved all at once.” The name is therefore a continual reminder to seek to ‘continually exalt” and glorify God, not just in business, but in every area of life; “…or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
Robert’s father “Rob” started making custom knives (robwrightknives.com) when Robert was very young. There was therefore always an appreciation for knives. Robert lived in Alabama for several years and served as a reserve deputy with his county’s sheriff’s department. Robert started researching knives for law enforcement to use in response to a gun grab attempt, or as a last ditch during a struggle. He could not find any knives or carry methods that he really liked for these purposes. Additionally, through research he could not find a fixed blade knife that he thought was any good for both rescue and self defense. He thought that designing quality products that took all these things into consideration would be very successful in the market place for law enforcement. After moving to South Carolina and many hours of research, and making his own prototypes (with his father’s help) he decided that the products were unique enough to form a company and obtain patent protection.
Currently Robert Wright has designed all the products sold by GTG Knives. Only American manufacturers that will deliver the highest quality and consistency are considered by GTG Knives. The knives currently in production are laser cut and hand ground. Doug Stice (sticecraft.com) is the person that can be most credited as a “maker” of the knives intially made by GTG Knives. Robert feels it is only appropriate to give him credit and put his name on the back of the knives.
